Artifact 1: Morning Meetings
This artifact is a book with morning meeting ideas that incorporate learning and fun into daily meetings. It includes a greeting, sharing and group activity, and a morning message. |
Artifact 2: Action Research Data Display
This artifact is a data display that includes several charts from the action research project I completed on 4th grade reading fluency. It gives a quick visual of the overall data from a 12-13 day intervention which includes average reading fluency rate in cold and hot reads (correct words per minute) for one of the students I worked with. It also includes the accuracy percentage per minute. |
Analysis
Artifact 1: Morning Meetings
I love morning meetings. I did them in the afternoon during student teaching and thought it was a great way to reconnect after lunch and recess for the kids, especially if there were any conflicts or needed time to wind down before starting Action 100. Building relationships among students as well as with the teacher is the basis for a safe and trusted classroom community. |
Artifact 2: Data Display
This artifact reflects the daily progress of each student's reading fluency. I feel that it fits well with making connections to students. When working on this intervention with these 2 students, I gave them support, praise and congratulated them on the success every day as we saw continuous growth in their reading fluency, from the cold and hot reads. Supporting and encouraging students to set and achieve their goals, builds relationships that aids in academic success. It builds trust between the teacher and the student. Building a positive rapport on an academic level with students is just as important as having emotional and social support in the classroom. |
Synthesis
Artifact 1: Morning Meetings
Meetings in the classroom are important as they give the students an opportunity to get to know one another and build relationships, have fun and learn, while becoming an important part of the classroom community. Meetings give students a voice in the classroom and offer a fun way to communicate and relieve anxieties and stress. |
Artifact 2: Data Display
I feel that setting goals for students and encouraging them to keep data to see the progress is important for student growth and encourages intrinsic motivation in students. I look forward to having data folders for my students so they can see their growth from lesson to lesson and from the beginning of the year to the end. I care about each student and their learning, but most of all I want my all of my students to want to learn. |
